About	Jerry R. Salmi, age 68, of Hobart, IN, was called home to be with his Lord on May 26, 2012.The love of his life, Ronnie, as well as his loving family, was at his side. Jerry was a graduate of Horace Mann High School and proudly served in the National Guard. Right after graduation, he went to work for US Steel, Gary Works. Jerry started at the Sheet & Tin division, then, went on to the 80Ã¢ï¿½ï¿½ and then on to the 84Ã¢ï¿½ï¿½ Hot Strip, where he retired after 47 years of service. He enjoyed his time at US Steel and most of the many friendships he made with his fellow workers. Soon after going to work at US Steel, Jerry married the love of his life, his beloved wife, Ronnie. They moved to Hobart and raised their two children Rhonda and Michael. Jerry loved to fish and spent many vacations with his family on Kentucky Lake, where he would return with Ronnie and spend their time alone together planning their future dreams. Later in life, Jerry developed a love for the game of golf and spent many days on the course with his son Michael where the two of them shared many memories. Jerry was a lifelong Green Bay Packers fan. Most of all, Jerry enjoyed spending time with this girl, Ronnie, whom he adoringly called Sam and she called him Sal. The two of them loved to take long trips and travel all over the United States. After retirement they bought an RV and they were off to paradise. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, William and Frances Geisert Salmi. He leaves behind his loving wife, Ronnie; daughter, Rhonda Salmi of Rensselaer; son Michael (Renee) Salmi of Crown Point; grandchildren: Taryn and Galvin Salmi, Damien (Natalie) Gass and Derrek Smith and great grandson, Nathan Gass; step mother, Lucille Salmi of Crown Point and brother, Robert (Lori) Salmi of California. Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 31, 2012, at 1:00 p.m. at the Burns Funeral Home, 10101 Broadway, Crown Point, IN. Services will end at the funeral home, with cremation to follow. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at the Burns Funeral Home from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m.
