About	Thomas E. Dering, age 66, a resident of Ogden Dunes for 36 years, formerly of Gary, IN, passed away, July 10, 2003, at Methodist Hospital Southlake Campus after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born June 20, 1937, in Gary, IN, the son of Robert M. & Sallie Dering. On November 25, 1961, he married Nancy J. (nee Rodgers), his devoted wife of 42 years. Also surviving is 1 brother, Richard R. (Marriellen) Dering of Merrillville; nephew, Brian (Kathie) Dering of Merrillville; aunt, Margaret Clark of Oregon; cousins, Dave (Deanie) Clark and Aleta Clark of Oregon and Mardilee (Steve) Kalember of Crown Point; mother-in-law, Mary Evelyn Rodgers. Tom was the former owner of Gary Office Equipment Company and later retired from Homewood Industries in Homewood, IL. Tom served in the U.S. Army Reserves. He was a graduate of Horace Mann High School, Class of 1955, a graduate of Indiana University, Class of 1959, a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. He was a member of the Gary Jaycees, a former member of the University Club, the National Rifle Association, the Independent Cat Society and a member of the Ogden Dunes Presbyterian Church. Tom was an accomplished outdoors man, fisherman, skier and wood carver. His positive attitude will always be remembered by his family and many wonderful friends.
