IN VIETNAM ACTION / SPRINGFIELD MARINE DIES_A Springfield Marine, Cpl. Benny T. Gish, 23, of 2330p North Fort, has been killed in Vietnam , according to word received by his family. Cpl. Gish was killed July 9 when enemy rocket fire struck his area in Quang-Nam, Vietnam where he was a member of Headquarters Company, 5th Marines. Before entering the marines, Gish was employed as manager of Twitty Hardware Co., and was then employed by the Hill Hardware after it purchased Twitty’s. He was a 1965 graduate of Hillcrest High School. Survivors include his wife, Deannette [Dannette], of the home; his mother, Mrs. Goldie Gish, 2345 North Farmer; a brother, Marine Sgt. Kenneth J. Gish, stations at Camp Pendleton, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Sharon Forrester, Fair Grove, and Cindy Gish, 2345 North Farmer; his grandmother, Mrs. Ida Mae Potts, Little Rock, Ark. Funeral services for Marine Cpl. Benny T. Gish, 23, of 2330 North Fort, will be at 10 a.m. Friday in the Hamlin Baptist Church, with the Carl Garrett officiating. Burial will be in National Cemetery with full military honors by the Marine Corps. Cpl. Gish died in action in Vietnam on July 9. [Spfd News Leader dated: July 17, 1969]
