Major (MAJ), Russell Long holds the position as the Army National Guard’s Electronic Warfare Officer (EWO) in the Information Operation (IO) branch under the NGB-ARO. He is responsible for managing the ARNG Electronic Warfare program; a critical ARNG/Army capability directed by the Army Chief of Staff as a core competency. The Army Electronic Warfare officer’s mission involves developing and integrating new ARNG EW soldiers into the ARNG force during the next several years. MAJ Long recently completed a tour as an ARNG Liaison to the Army’s Operation Center (AOC) where he worked on the HQDA’s AOC Crisis Action Team (CAT) at the Pentagon. This position functions as the direct link between the Guard and the Army for information pertaining to domestic and worldwide matters. MAJ Long holds a Masters of Science degree from National Louis University (Chicago, Illinois) in Management with an emphasis in Leadership. He received his undergraduate in Criminal Justice from Park University (Kansas City, Missouri). MAJ Long enlisted on into the U.S. Army on 3 February 1983 and after completing Basic Training (BCT) and Advance Individual Training (AIT) at Ft. Jackson, South Carolina, he served with the 558 Military Police (MP) Company (Kaiserslautern, Germany), as a Logistics Specialist. Following his tour in Europe, he served with the 937 Engineer Group (Ft. Riley, Kansas). MAJ Long then attended Infantry school at Ft. Benning, Georgia during the spring of 1987. While he was training to be an infantryman, he was selected for a tour with the 3 US Infantry, located in Washington, DC. During the next several years, he performed exclusive “Drill and Ceremony” as a member of the 3 US Infantry’s Presidential Escort, The Old Guard, located at Ft. Myer, VA. In the summer of 1992, after four years with ?The Old Guard?, he left the Active Component (AC) military, and joined the 310th TAACOM Reserve unit located at Ft. Belvoir, Virginia. As an Army Reservist, he completed the Traffic Management School at Ft. Eustis, Virginia. In April of 1996, MAJ Long transferred from the Reserves to the District of Columbia Army National Guard (DCARNG), where he attended the DCARNG’s Officer Candidate School OCS). In June of 1997, he was commissioned a Second Lieutenant (2LT). In March of 1998, he received a full-time position with the DC ARNG at their State Joint Forces Headquarters (JFHQ) in the Operations Directorate. MAJ Long has served in numerous positions of responsibility that include: Unit Logistics Specialist (558 Military Police Company and HHC, 937 Engineer Group), Squad Leader (Guns Platoon, Hotel Company, 3 US Infantry), Traffic Management Coordinator (310 TAACOM), Platoon Leader (273, 274, and the 275 MP Companies, DCARNG), Company Commander (276 and 274 MP Companies, DCARNG), and Military Support Officer and State Training Officer (J-3, JFHQ, DCARNG). MAJ Long’s military awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Award (one Oak LC), Army Good Conduct Medal (second award), Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal (four Oak LC), National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal (M devise & Bronze Hourglass), NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Army Overseas Ribbon, Army Reserve Components Overseas Training Ribbon, DC Distinguished Service Medal, DC Meritorious Service Medal, DC Faithful Service Medal, DC Emergency Service Ribbon, DC Community Service Ribbon, DC Attendance Ribbon, Army Meritorious Unit Commendation, Airborne Badge, Air Assault Badge, and the German Armed Forces Efficiency Badge.

Terry served for 21 years and retired as a Sergeant First Class. He served 3 years in Korea, 3 years in Germany, 13 months in Iraq. State side he was stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. and Fort Lewis, WA.He now lives in Festus.
