David J. Kunz
Class of 1986
Navy, 6 Years
Spent 3 years on active duty followed by 3 years in the Navel Reserves. After boot camp down in Orlando, Florida followed by schooling at Great Lakes Navel base in Illinois where I studied the electronics and electrical systems of various weapons systems I was stationed in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii where I got to go see Japan, Hong Kong, Korea, and the Philippines. Right before I was released from active duty my ship was decomissioned and I was sent to serve my final months in Long Beach, California on the great battleship USS Missouri which was the ship that Japan signed their surrender at the end of World War II on. A year and a half later while serving in the Naval Reserves out of Milwaukee, Wisconsin my unit was reactivated to active duty and I was sent to the Philippines to help in the loading of bombs, missiles, and other weapons onto ships that were headed to the Persian Gulf during Operation Dessert Storm. Luckily we were sent back home in a little more than three months due to the great success of the U.S. military air attacks which quickly ended the war.
