About Tim was a high school friend. One Christmas Eve we stayed up late baking Christmas cookies in his mother's kitchen. We talked. The topics turned metaphysical. Our minds were expanding more and more with the conversation as the hours passed. Just about midnight Tim suggested we try to "read" a piece of furniture in the room. He led me to a wooden sideboard china cabinet. He and I put our hands on it and closed our eyes. He spoke what images came to him. I saw images, too, in my mind's eye and spoke them. We were seeing the "past lives" of that piece of furniture--snapshots of the people's lives that passed in and out of the room where the sideboard stood. It got more and more detailed, the images coming to both of us complementing each other. We saw at least two generations of a family associated with the sideboard. Our lives then took different paths. Decades later, when Facebook was invented, Tim contacted me. We talked on the phone. He told me how he loved working as a server at Dennys, especially the one by LAX. Even though he never travelled, he told me he like to imagine what the lives were like of the customers he served. In his imagination he experienced countless cultures and life stories. Perhaps his deep intuitive sense was "reading" the customers like he had taught me to "read" that piece of furniture in his mother's house. Tim, where ever you are in the great beyond, I wish you happy journeys with love.
