About | Mary Hope Hyde was born on July 17, 1952 in North Hunstanton, Great Britain where her family was stationed with the U.S. Air Force. She died of a massive stroke at 1:30 in the afternoon on March 17, 1999. On May 17, 1983 while stationed in Germany, she married John Maska, retired Navy. He died two years later. His son Nicholas Maska said he died of a broken heart. She served in the U.S. Air Force for six years. When her husband, retired from the Navy, they moved to Colorado Springs where John practiced law. Mary practiced her skills volunteering with the Pikes Peak Amateur Hockey Assoc., where she was much appreciated and missed after her death. In one of her last letters to me (Kathy Connor Dobronyi), she talked about the 20-year reunion in 1989. “I would have loved to have gone, since I consider Harrison my high school more than the other three I attended.” Mary arrived at Harrison in her sophomore year. She enjoyed the cheer squad and French club, and adored Madame Sabo. At the end of her junior year in 1968, her father was transferred to California where she graduated from Fremont HS. Her son, Nicholas John Maska, told me that “She was an outstanding mother who loved her children very much.” |
