HHS Gymn Dedicattion as the James J. Cooper Gymnasium
On March 5, 2015 between the basketball games there will be a ceremony to commemoratively dedicate the HHS gym in honor of long-time teacher, coach, athletic director Jim Cooper. The Gym will be named the James J. Cooper Gymansium. This commemorative naming was recommended to the Boaed of Education by a citizen and affirmed by a committee charged with considering that recommendation. The Board approve the recommendation on February 9, 2015. Mr. Cooper served the district for parts of five decades and touched the lives of thousands of student athletes, coaches and colleagues. Congratulations Mr. Cooper.

Stadium and Field Dedication Ceremony
At the varsity football game on September 5, 2014 the stadium was rededicated as Hughes Memorial Stadium in honor of the Hughes family who donated the property on which now sits the track and football field. The field was dedicated in honor of Richard Harris, long-time football and girls track coach. Members of the Hughes family were in attendance as was Mr. Harris and members of his family. Also over a hundred former football players and girls track and field competitors came out to join Coach Harrison on the field for the dedication.

Softball, 2013 JPC Champs
The HHS Girls and Coach Matt Cooper celebrated a conference outright championship after sweeping two games from Farwell on May 16, 2013. Way to go girls!

Mrs. Petrongelli wins award
Terry Petrongelli, English teacher at the Middle School and HHS for many years, was recently named the Teacher of the Year by the Michigan Council of Teachers of English. Congratulations, Mrs. Petro.

Keith Mayfield Dies
Mr. Keith Mayfield, a long serving principal and school administrator for Harrison, passed away recently. Mr. Mayfield was the high school principal to many alums. He was also instumental in assisting with the planning of the new high school.
Our prayers and condolences go out to the Mayfield family. Keith will be remember by the many people whose lives he touched.

Kelly House/Hearst Award
Kelly House (Class of 2006) was selected as a finalist for the Hearst Foundation Collegiate Journalism Awards and competed in the writing finals in San Fransisco, CA in June of 2009. Kelly won the national writing competition. She will graduate from Michigan State Universtity in December 2009. She has worked there as a writer and a managing editor of the State News.

Blake Allison Second at State
Senior Blake Allison (Class of 2010) finished second at the State Cross Country meet for the second year in a row. Blake won all of his other races this year and was selected as the Jack Pine Conference Most Outstanding Runner. Way to go Blake!

Ski Team State Champions
The HCS boys ski team won the MHSAA division II 2009 state championship. This is the first team state championship of any kind for Harrison. Way to go, boys!

Coach Harris retires
Dick Harris retired this spring. His service to the young men and women of the community has been long and valuable. He will continue as the girls track coach which is good news for the girls on the team. Pep assemblies, Spirit Night, and history lectures will never be the same.

Bird retires
Mr. Bruce Biird) Brandon retired this spring. His service to HHS spanned five decades. Service of that length and quality is rare. Mr. Brandon touched thousands of young lives in his career.
