Air Force, 4 Years

Enlisted in Air Force on 4/30/1965. Basic Training at Lackland AFB, San Antonio , TX; Advanced Training at Sheppard AFB, Wichita Falls, TX where I was trained in Military Pay records using the Air Forces new computer system. After training was assigned to Athenai Air Base, Athens, Greece where the new computer system was not used. Everything was done manually. Was in Greece for a little over 2 years. Was there when the Greek Generals overthrew the King and also left to come back to the States 1 week after the King tried to take back power. (He failed) Each time, our base wound up surrounded by tanks with their barrels lowered to aim at us. Fun time in Greece except for those incidents. Was reassigned to AF Accounting and Finance Center, Denver, CO where I handled the pay for all the Air Force troops stationed in Vietnam. Never saw action in Vietnam but saw the results at Fitzsimons Army Hospital in Denver when I was put in there with Measles! (amazing to have got them when 21) Lots of guys there with missing limbs and other bodily injuries. Received an Honorable Discharge on 10/31/1968 (6 month early out)
