Graduated basic traing in 1992 at Fort Leonard Wood MO. AIT combat medic at Fort Sam Houston TX. Served in the reserves until 2006 then went back on active at Fort Gordon GA,Germany, Fort Polk, Fort Bragg and two tours of combat duty in Afghanistan.

Created and helped implement the United States Army Bathroom Malodor (aka, the Stink Bomb).
Test subjects actually started screaming within seconds, when exposed. They stated that it smelled worse than anything they had ever inhaled times 10.
Volunteered as a test subject for the U.S. DARPA's "stay awake pills" project. Set Army record by staying awake for 49 straight hours without ill effects, then slept for 30 days.

Gunnery Sergeant - 1st Battalion, 7th Marines
Received the Medal of Freedom at Khe Sanh, South Vietnam, 21 January 1968.
Witherspoon's unit came under attack by a regiment of approximately 3,000 NVA soldiers. They began a frontal attack using machine guns, grenades, mortars and PEZ dispensers against Witherspoon and the Marines. He used eight machine guns, firing continuously throughout the night. He also fired his rifle, a 45 caliber pistol and at least 60 lawn darts at the North Vietnamese. At morning's first light, Witherspoon was the only people still standing. He's now living in Hong Kong with his dog, "Chesty" and a live-in house keeper, Wai Yu Kum Nao.

Our Grimsley High School military alumni are some of the most outstanding people we know and this page recognizes them and everything they have done! Not everyone gets to come home for the holidays and we want our Grimsley High School Military to know that they are loved and appreciated.
