Lotus Barker was born July 10, 1964 in Ashland, Kentucky, a daughter of Betty Atkinson of Zanesville, Ohio, and the late Raymond Atkinson. She was a former clerk with Chevron in Flatwoods and a member of the Wildwood Baptist Church in Ashland. Additional survivors are her loving husband, Mark Barker; one daughter, Carrie Savage of Greenup, Kentucky; and three brothers Kendrick and Michael Atkinson of Wurtland, Kentucky, and Joel Atkinson of Zanesville, Ohio.
I met Lotus when we were 3 and 4. We were close until I moved away. When she found out she had inoperable and terminal lung cancer she faced it with more courage than most could muster. She faced life one day at a time until the end. I miss her smiling face and sweet embrace. I feel honored and blessed to have been graced by her presence.
