Doreen was born and raised in Rochester, NY on February 8, 1954, growing up on the west side in the City of Rochester on Glide St, attending RCSD School #43, and worshipping at Holy Apostles on Lyell Ave, where she would walk to church every week with her grandmother, older sister, and little brothers in their Sunday best. As a young teen Doreen moved to Greece, NY, residing on Mascot Drive and Frandee Lane. Doreen was a student at Hoover Drive and Greece Olympia High School, graduating in 1972. During her very active teen years in high school, Doreen was a member of The Blue Angels (Snare Drummer), The Webster Vanguard Drill Team and the Rochester Crusaders Drum & Bugle Corps Color Guard from 1971-76. Also during high school, Doreen was a member of Rochester's locally owned family retail giant and pioneer department store, McCurdy's & Co., as a Teen Advisory Board member, consulting on fashion, culture and youth trends. She was a cheerleader and Homecoming Queen! The 1970s were a groovy time! Doreen went to Boston Conservatory at Berklee graduating in 1981 with a Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts and Dance, majoring in Ballet (en Pointe). Yes,she was real ballerina! Doreen performed with different dance companies but always stayed close to home before moving to Connecticut in the late 1980s when she became a TWA international flight attendant, flying all over the world, where she fell in love with Paris. While exploring the world she eventually married and became a mom, her favorite job above all! After returning home to Rochester in the early 90s, she settled in Webster and eventually had her second son. During the busy years of raising her sons Doreen was involved with the Webster community and high school. She was the Dance Instructor/ Choreographer for the Webster Band from 1992-2008 as well as the Empire Statesmen throughout the 1990s. Her desire to go back to school for Nursing was the new challenge she sought to conquer, after working as a PCT at Rochester General Hospital. As a single mom, taking classes part time for years finally paid off, graduating from MCC with her RN AAS Degree in 2013, then continued on to SUNY Brockport to complete her BSN in 2016. Doreen worked at Unity Hospital, continued to work up to several clinical levels, specializing as a Critical Care Cardiac Nurse, traveled to Olean General Hospital during Covid, and most recently was employed by Highland Hospital on West 4 working 7pm-7am for her "3/12s". Doreen loved to precept new nurses and never turned down the opportunity take on a whole group of nursing students for their clinical hours, all while juggling her workload and remaining calm in the chaos. Her life was so full but that also came with some big mountains to climb; however, she always had a positive attitude and was never without a smile. She was silly, so silly, always laughing! She loved God fiercely, honored Our Blessed Mother, served her Lord, and attended Christ the King/St. Kateri parish for 30 years. The lives Doreen has touched and impacted cannot be measured. She was the most selfless and generous and loving soul, always ready to help someone by any means possible. Doreen's unexpected death only confirms how fleeting our time here on this earth really is. As a family grieving so deeply, our only solace is knowing she is finally at peace. Rest now, our beloved mother/sister/aunt/friend, you have left us in body but never in spirit |
