Born in Portland, Oregon on June 12, 1986, Ainge was raised in Hillsboro, which is located just outside of Portland. His athletic journey started in his school years at Glencoe High, where he was a star athlete and played baseball, basketball, and football. Ainge was also a two-year starter at quarterback on the football team, leading Glencoe Crimson Tide to the Oregon state quarterfinals.

Following his exceptional high school career, Ainge signed with the University of Tennessee to play college football. As a freshman at Tennessee in 2004, he had an impressive run, completing 109 of 198 passes for 1,452 yards, 17 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. His 17 touchdowns broke Peyton Manning's freshman touchdown record.
