Gabe entered the 141st ECB of the ND Army National Guard in 1994. He stayed with the same company out of Valley City, ND through Operation Iraqi Freedom 2 from December 2003 to February 2005. In Iraq, he served under the 1st Infantry Division and took part in major operations supporting the containment of Al Sadr Militia after April, 2004 and offensive operations in Samarrah and Fallujah throughout the year. The primary mission of Gabe's unit was IED clearance and Gabe was involved on many missions throughout the 14 month deployment. He didn't take leave in order to stay with his unit and not miss out on any mission. When his TOD was ending, he found out that classmate Jayme Kohler with the amphibious troops aka marines, were starting their first rotation. Currently, Gabe is an E7 in the NDARNG and is preparing for a second deployment in 2009.

Master Sergeant Jayme Kohler was born on 5 May 1976 in Mandan, North Dakota. He graduated from Glen Ullin Public School in 1994 and Phi Theta Kappa from Bismarck State College in 1997 with an Associate Degree in Electronics Technology.

Master Sergeant Kohler enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1997 and completed recruit training at Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego, California, with a meritorious promotion to Private First Class. He was then transferred to Assault Amphibious School Battalion in Camp Pendleton, California and was consequently awarded the 1833 Military Occupational Specialty, Assault Amphibian Vehicle Crewman in March 1998.

Private First Class Kohler was assigned his first duty station at 3rd Assault Amphibian Battalion, Camp Pendleton, California with Company C, 3rd Platoon, and promoted to Lance Corporal in April 1998. In November he deployed with the 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit and participated in Operation Desert Fox, Operation Southern Watch, Operation Sudden Storm, and Operation Anvil II throughout the Middle East. He was promoted to Corporal in May 1999 and returned from deployment in July.

Later that year, Corporal Kohler was awarded Non Commissioned Officer of the Quarter for 3rd Assault Amphibian Battalion and received a meritorious promotion to Sergeant in November 1999. In January 2000, Sergeant Kohler won Marine of the Year for 3rd Assault Amphibian Battalion.

In August 2001 he left Camp Pendleton and was transferred to Quantico, Virginia to attend Marine Security Guard School where he received the Top Gun award. He was subsequently assigned to duty as Watchstander, American Embassy Pretoria, Republic of South Africa, and was promoted to Staff Sergeant in February 2003 prior to his next post of Brasilia, Brazil as Assistant Detachment Commander. Concluding his tour, Staff Sergeant Kohler served as Detachment Commander, Ottawa, Canada.

Upon his return to 3rd Assault Amphibian Battalion, Staff Sergeant Kohler deployed twice to Iraq, once in December 2004 as a combat advisor, attached to 3rd Company, 9th Battalion, 2nd Brigade, Iraqi Intervention Force in Al Fallujah and Habbaniyah, and also in March 2006 as an improvised infantry squad leader in Al Qa’im, Dulab, and throughout the Al Anbar province.

Staff Sergeant Kohler was promoted to Gunnery Sergeant in March 2007 and held the platoon sergeant billet for the 15th Marine Expeditionary Unit. In September he left Camp Pendleton and was transferred to Recruit Training Regiment, Parris Island, South Carolina serving as a Drill Instructor with Companies L, I, and A, a Senior Drill Instructor with Company A, and Series Gunnery Sergeant and Company First Sergeant with Company C.

Gunnery Sergeant Kohler returned in March 2011 to 3rd Assault Amphibian Battalion, Camp Pendleton, California and assumed the billet of Platoon Sergeant, 1st Platoon, after the activation of Company F. While serving in that capacity, he was temporarily assigned as the Senior Enlisted Advisor to Company A, 31st Light Infantry Battalion, 3d Infantry Brigade, Army of the Republic of Georgia during their pre-deployment training to Afghanistan in the Republic of Georgia and Hohenfels, Germany. Later in September, Gunnery Sergeant Kohler was temporarily assigned to 1st Marine Expeditionary Force (FWD) C-7 as Engineer Operations Real Estate Chief, and deployed to Afghanistan from February to September 2012.

Upon the conclusion of his assignment, Gunnery Sergeant Kohler served as Headquarters and Service Company Operations and Logistics Chief. He was promoted to Master Sergeant in February 2013, and transferred to Company E as Logistics Chief for their Unit Deployment Program to Okinawa, Japan. While deployed, Master Sergeant Kohler also served as Senior Enlisted Advisor for Landing Force Cooperation Afloat Readiness And Training (LF CARAT) 2014, conducting bilateral exercises across Southeast Asia.

Master Sergeant Kohler is an accomplished marksman. As a member of the Parris Island Rifle/Pistol Team, he was awarded a silver medal in individual pistol and was a firing member for the winning rifle and pistol team trophies, the Elliot and the Edson, in 2009 Eastern Division Matches. He also competed in the 2013 All Navy (West) and Fleet Forces Command (Pacific) Rifle and Pistol Championships, being awarded gold and silver medals in individual pistol. Additionally, he was a firing member for the winning pistol teams for both competitions.

Master Sergeant Kohler is currently serving as Logistics Chief, Company B, during their Unit Deployment Program to Okinawa, Japan in 2015.

He is married to the former Jenny Baron of Coral Springs, Florida.

His awards and decorations include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal, Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal with four gold stars, Combat Action ribbon, Navy Unit Commendation ribbon, Navy Meritorious Unit Commendation ribbon, Good Conduct Medal with four bronze service stars, National Defense Service Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal with bronze service star, Iraq Campaign Medal with two bronze service stars, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Navy Sea Service Deployment ribbon with five bronze service stars, Navy and Marine Corps Overseas Service ribbon with bronze service star, Drill Instructor ribbon, Marine Security Guard ribbon, and NATO ISAF Medal.
