About	Carlene J. "CJ" (Gerkensmeyer) Behrens, 72, of Perrysburg, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, March 30, 2008, in St. Luke's Hospital after a brief illness. She was an 18-year breast cancer survivor, and inspired others with her courage. She will be missed by all that knew her. Carlene graduated from Genoa High School in 1954, attended Capital University, and graduated from Toledo Hospital's School of Nursing in 1958. After working in The Toledo Hospital for many years, she then entered the industrial nursing field and ran the health department at the former National Castings plant in East Toledo for 17 years. She retired from Owens-Illinois' Riverside Health Care Center in Levis Park in 2000. She is survived by her children, Amy (Scott) Steele, of Perrysburg, Carl (Lori) Behrens, of Toledo, and John Behrens, of San Diego, California; grandchildren, Ellen and Molly Steele, and Katherine and Christian Behrens. She is also survived by her brother, Ronald (Diane) Gerkensmeyer, of Williston, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents, Cleo Gerkensmeyer Shaffer and Carl Gerkensmeyer. It was Carlene's wish to support the education of future doctors and nurses, and she donated her body to the University of Toledo's College of Medicine. In celebration of her spirit, the family will receive friends Sunday, April 6th, at the Walter Funeral Home, 4653 Glendale, from 2 to 4 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family graciously asks donations to be made to the 577 Foundation, 577 E. Front St., Perrysburg, or to the Northwest Ohio Affiliate of the Susan B. Komen Foundation, 3100 W. Central Ave., Suite 206, Toledo, OH 43606, or to a charity of the donors' choice.
