About Gary A. Ruggiero, 63, of Linden Boulevard died Wednesday at The University of Michigan Hospital, Ann Arbor, Mich.

He was born in Norwalk to Patsey and Ervindean (Boyer) Ruggiero. He married J. Romaine Breece on May 2, 1964 in McComb, and she survives.

He is also survived by son, Jeff Ruggiero, Toledo; daughter, Stacy (Charles) Heath, Tempe, Ariz.; mother, Ervindean Ruggiero, Cygnet; brother, Roger (Audrey) Ruggiero, Rochesterville, Mich.; and sister, Patricia (Terry) Martell, Holland, Ohio. He is preceded by his father, Patsey Ruggiero.

Gary worked as a guidance counselor for Fremont City Schools, beginning at the junior high school then going to Ross High School, retiring in 1997. He then went back to counsel in three of the elementary schools in the city.

He was a graduate of Bowling Green State University, with a degree in education, and then received a master's degree in guidance counseling from Xavier University.

Ruggiero created the peer meditation/listener programs at Ross High School and developed and implemented the concept for the Village House. He was awarded the Fremont City Schools "Excellence in Action" award and was the migrant summer school director for 10 years. He served on the board of directors for the Buckeye Council of Campfire and Kids in Crisis Start Program.

Visitation: 2 to 9 p.m. Friday at Wonderly-Horvath Funeral Home.

Funeral services: 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Grace Lutheran Church, Fremont, with the Rev. Paul Gruetter officiating.
