About	In Memory Mike Aten ~ Fremont Ross Class 1971 BENTON TOWNSHIP -- Two men are dead after an SUV and a semi collided on Ohio 2 early Thursday afternoon. The Sandusky Post of the Ohio Highway Patrol reported Michael B. Aten, 60, of Vermilion, and Ricky Jackson, 52, of Struthers, both died in the crash, which occurred at 12:44 p.m. near the Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge. Aten was driving a 2011 Ford Escape west on Ohio 2 when he crossed the center line into the path of the 2007 International commercial truck Jackson was driving, the patrol reports. The SUV came to rest off the north side of the road. The semi came to rest in a ditch off the south side of the road. A large coil of steel that had been in the semi trailer broke loose, struck the passenger compartment of the truck and came to rest in the ditch in front of the truck. Debris from both vehicles covered the road. Ohio 2 was closed for about four hours. Traffic was detoured on Ohio 358, Ohio 163 and Ohio 590, causing long backups in Oak Harbor. The Ottawa County Sheriff's Office, Allen Clay Joint Fire District fire and EMS personnel, the Jerusalem Township Fire Department, the Ohio Department of Transportation and the Ottawa County Engineer's Office assisted the patrol. The crash remains under investigation. The patrol reports that it is unknown if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash. Aten was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. It is not known whether Jackson was wearing a seatbelt. The victims were taken to the Lucas County Coroner's Office.
