About Rob Lytle, 56, of Fremont, Ohio died Saturday, November 20, 2010 of a heart attack at Memorial Hospital in Fremont.

Born on November 12, 1954 in Fremont to W. Kelly and Ruth Lytle, Rob excelled as a football player at Fremont Ross. In 1972, Rob earned first team all-Buckeye Conference and all-district honors. He was named to the All-Ohio United Press International first team and second team All-State from the Associated Press. Rob attended the University of Michigan, where he graduated with a Bachelors degree in education. While attending Michigan, Rob was an All-American and the Most Valuable Player of the Big-Ten Conference. Rob finished third in the 1976 Heisman Trophy balloting. In 1977, Rob was drafted in the second round of the NFL draft by the Denver Broncos. Rob helped lead the Broncos to their first Super Bowl in 1978 during his rookie season. He scored Denvers only touchdown in a loss to the Dallas Cowboys. Rob played seven seasons with Denver before retiring. He has the distinction of being the first player to score a touchdown in the Rose Bowl and the Super Bowl.

Following his career with the Broncos, Rob returned to Fremont and worked in the family clothing store, I. Lytle's, Inc. He, also, worked for Bowlus Trucking, Turner Construction and eventually The Old Fort Bank as Vice-President. In addition, Rob owned and operated Buds Tavern for a period of years. Rob remained active in his community, serving as a member on the Sandusky County Economic Development Council, on the board of the Sandusky County MR/DD and as a member and past president of the Fremont Rotary Club. His most important gift, however, is in the lives he touched daily and the family he dedicated himself to building. As a continuation of his desire to help others, Robs remains were donated to Life Connection for organ donation. His mother, Ruth and his mother-in-law, Audre Rauch, preceded Rob in death. Rob is survived by his father, W. Kelly; his wife, Tracy; his daughter Erin (Daniel) Tober and her daughter Audrey; his son, Kelly; his sisters Christine (John) Farley and Deborah (George) Wenger. Other family members include Del (Katie) Rauch, Tanya (Bill) Schling, Terry (Patsie) Rauch and numerous nieces and nephews. All those who loved him, including his other children, Labradors Katie, Lilly and Peanut, will miss him.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will take place at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, November 24, 2010 at Grace Lutheran Church, 705 W. State Street, Fremont, OH, with Pastor Paul Gruetter officiating.
