Roman Michael Haras passed away October 8, 2004 in Seattle, Washington, after an intense battle with kidney cancer. Born April 26, 1952 in Bethlehem, he was a son of the late Roman and Anna Haras. Roman graduated from Freedom High School in 1970, from the University of Pennsylvania in 1974, and received a JD in 1987 from the University of Washington. He was a commercial fisherman in Alaska for almost 30 years. He lived his life on and near the water and was a master mariner. Roman was an active member of the Seattle community, where he served as a volunteer for several organizations. He was a tenacious, funny, Courageous, intelligent and compassionate man. We will miss him very much. Survivors: He is survived by his wife, Catherine; his daughter, Maria Louise; his sister, Oksana Koziak; an uncle; several aunts; numerous cousins in the United State, Ukraine and other countries in Europe. Services: memorial, will be held in his memory for family and friends in this area at 8 a.m. Saturday, December 18, 2004 in St. Josaphats Ukrainian Catholic Church, Kenmore and Union Boulevard, Bethlehem. Arrangements, Pearson Funeral Home, Bethlehem. Contributions: A memorial fund was established in his daughter Marias name at the Seattle Girls School, P.O. Box 22576, Seattle, Wash. 98122.
