Favorite School Memory I just really enjoyed attending school with really good kids who were serious about doing well in academics and their extra-curricular pursuits. I really enjoyed the friendships I formed and the kindness of so many of my classmates during my three years at Franklin Community High School. I also loved that we had so many teachers that enjoyed the students and ...(read more)
About Me I earned my bachelor's degree in music education from Brigham Young University in 1996. I did take a two year break after my junior year to serve as a missionary in New York, Connecticut, and Rhode Island, for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, where I taught people about Jesus Christ and his gospel. I married my husband on May 5, 1995. We had our first child in July of 1996. I have run several businesses from our home. One business, which I currently run, is my private clarinet studio, Licorice Stick Studios. I enjoy working with secondary students, teaching correct techniques, rudiments, and musicality. But even more, I enjoy seeing them learn discipline, responsibility, and diligence. I teach up in Greenwood. I also have enjoyed working as a woodwind specialist in an elementary band school program. I have also helped various schools as a specialist with sectionals and summer band. I have had the opportunity to participate in orchestras, wind ensembles, and the Indianapolis Symphonic Band. As for the majority of my time, in 2003, I took a serious commitment to home school my three children. It is not always easy, but it is so worth it! I enjoy watching them learn and grow. It's fun to review so many school subjects again. Of course, we add curriculum that you may not find in the public schools. We also balance this with extra curricular activities within our community such as band, art, 4-H, Horse and Pony clubs, church activities, youth group, and scouts. We also affiliate with a couple of home school co-ops. On our home front, my husband and I bought and run a mini-farm where we raise and breed Arabian horses who have World and National Champion bloodlines, Nubian Show goats, and German Shepherd dogs. This keeps me fairly busy with births, running a home dairy, and helping with the horses and dogs. I also have grown a rather large vegetable garden each year, which I harvest. This was a tradition handed down for generations through my family. Business -wise, I have found myself engaged in helping make business decisions, and working out the finances for our computer software company. Arion Systems Consulting serves clients, helping them come up with software solutions that help run their businesses with greater ease and efficiency. Each consultation leaves clients excited to see business solutions they may or may not have not even thought about, implemented. Religiously, I have been very involved with our church, which has a membership of over 13 million world wide. Since it runs off of a lay ministry, members are asked to perform various duties within the church. I have had multiple opportunities to serve since I was 12 years old. Currently I serve as a chorister, an emergency preparedness and cannery specialist which we extend to the community, and I am a local missionary, assisting those in our congregation, as well as, the full- time missionaries. You may have seen the yellow helping hands T-shirts during times of disaster within your communities. These are members of our congregations helping serve and lighten other burdens. We had the opportunity of helping many people during the 500 year flood this past summer. Project-wise, I have been very involved in home renovations since we bought our farm. I just finished a massive woodworking project where I learned framing, electrical wiring, design, and how to work with oak. I have enough confidence to know that I can figure out anything by asking questions and doing research. Does that sound familiar from the student who never was afraid to raise her hand and ask a question? I've always embraced life that way and I enjoy it! My motto regarding projects is "I wait for no man." I refuse to be the type of female who limits herself or her skills because they are typically done by a male. This often shocks my female friends and family. Hey - more power to me! I get a kick out of all of this, but even better, m...(read more)
