Retired in 1996 as a Master Chief Petty Officer after 28 years of service. Duty assignments include Coast Guard cutters in New York, Woods Hole MA and Newport RI. In addition, served at Training Center Cape May NJ, Coast Guard stations in Cape Charles VA and Boothbay Harbor ME.

Served 31 years in the US Navy, Deployed on USS RANGER during Iranian hostage crisis, and was in North Arabian Sea when they were released. Iraq war on USS MIDWAY 1990-1991. Operation Enduring Freedom, USS ESSEX 2004-2005. Also stationed on USS SARATOGA, and JOHN F KENNEDY.
