My Best Friend was killed in an accident in the late 1970s.. I miss him and think of him often. We were like brothers and seen together almost everyday for 4 years. We went different ways after High School, but I always considered him and his family as part of my family. Rest in Peace Friend!

If you went to Foothill, look at the 1968 or 1969 yearbook, see the kids it is in memory of. Don't let you kids swim in Kern River. Rest in Peace forever.

Bakersfield native Michael T. Porter died on Monday, January 15, 2007, in Virginia Beach, Virginia, victim of a stray bullet. A relatively new member of the United States Navy, Mike was well known and liked in this area through his many activities. The essence of Mike is contained in his own final "My Space" login of January 11, 2007. "Male. 26 years old. Born and raised in East Bakersfield (It sucks to be me!). Graduated from Foothill High School in 1998 and went on to receive an AA from B.C. in 2001. Received a Bachelor of Arts degree from CSU-Bakersfield in 2004. Then spent a year teaching English at Arvin High School (Once a Bear, always a Bear!). Currently in Virginia Beach, Virginia, doing Master- at-Arms 'A' School with the U.S. Navy." Mike is survived by his mother, Daphne K. Porter and his father, Richard R. Porter, both of Bakersfield; and his brothers, Daniel J. Porter, currently a student at CSUB, and Sr. Airman David R. Porter, who is stationed at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Great Falls, MT. Mike is also survived by his maternal family: grandmother, Hilda A. Ranton of Eureka, California; three aunts, three uncles, and six cousins from all over the country, several of whom will be attending his services. He is also survived by members of his large paternal family: grandmother, Lois Porter of Bakersfield; nine aunts and uncles and numerous cousins who live around the Bakersfield area. Social and personally engaging, Mike enjoyed life, had many friends, and was an excellent writer; he loved playing basketball, following his favorite footballers, the Oakland Raiders, and certainly his long-time "best friend," Rottweiler Machiavelli "Mac". Mike will be missed. Services will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2:00 p.m., under the auspices of Hillcrest Memorial Mortuary at the Monica Ward Building, 851 Monica Rd., Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, with the leadership of Bishop Steve Dunne and the U.S. Navy Military Honors led by Navy Chaplain Bishop Ringo. Interment will follow immediately at Hillcrest Cemetery under the leadership of Bishop Ron Beasley. The family expresses its appreciation for your many offers of sympathy and condolence. Sarah Ash Lee Hance
Class of 2000
Passed Oct 26, 2008
Sarah Ash Lee Hance aka "Sarah Jane" 1982 - 2008 Our Sarah left us unexpectedly and unprepared on October 26, 2008. Sarah has left behind her two beautiful sons, Ethan Glynn Lawson (9), and Gavin Michael Scales (5). Sarah was also pregnant with the baby girl she always wanted. If you knew Sarah, you knew she still didn't have a first name, she's had a 100 and they all ended with a "N" to match her boys, but she did have a middle name, Jolee, Jo after Sarah's mom and Lee after her. So we have decided to just call her "Sarah's Little Princess because that's how she would have treated her. Sarah also leaves behind her dad and mom, Glynn and Joyce Hance; grandmother, Peggy Stokes; best friend and sister, Charli T. Hance "Mo"; special aunt, Lisa Correa and Mike Correa; special uncle, Berry and aunt, Didi Stokes; special cousin, Crystal Smith; friend and sweetheart through life, Frank Lawson; and many cousins. Sarah had a big heart and loved all her family so much that she could never leave home. Sarah was still living at home and didn't care who knew it. If she ever did leave for a weekend she would make us promise that we wouldn't go anywhere good to eat. Sarah was always bringing home stray animals knowing her Dad was going to be mad. But always knowing he would give in which was a joke with us. Sarah loved her sister who was also her best friend even though she wanted to kick her butt at least once a week. Sarah was a graduate of Foothill High School class of 2000, and had gone to Cosmetology school, but had worked in the last year at a dairy which she loved. She had even delivered a calf by herself which she was proud of. Sarah, you will always be in our heart and soul every minute of every day. All your loving family. Sarah Jane is now sitting in Heaven with her Little Princess at the side of her loving grandpa, Charles T. Stokes.
