Alumni Stories
James Leger
Class of 1969
So it was 1968 and I used to park my car in front of the YMCA, at the bottom of the high school steps.
I was known to have small quantities of cannabis and occasionally a friend would meet me at my vehicle before school.
One day as I ascended the center stair case to the second floor, I was confronted by Mr. Sweeney, who confronted me and stating , “OK Leger ...we know what you’re up to... Get to your home room! And obviously I knew what he was up to and had to act quick!
I’m sure we all remember the volunteer a student that came to each homeroom with messages for the day, informing the teacher of absent students, or general messages.
Fortunately, I was friendly with this volunteer a student and gave her the keys to my car., explaining how there was cannabis in my glove compartment and Mr. Sweeney observe me distributing some before school.
I asked her if she could get to my vehicle and remove it. She was very obliging.
As I sat in homeroom I realize I could not expect anyone jeapordise their future because of my stupidity
So, I decided to ask my homeroom teacher to go to the bathroom. At that point I sprinted down two floors, exited the east side of the high school, ran to Taft Street, across Prichard Street and dove under my car for my hide a key and remove the cannabis.
Five minutes later, I was back in my homeroom price Perspiring like a wet mop.
When the first period bell rang I again ascended the center staircase to the third floor.
As I did, I observed the local police department searching my vehicle. All four doors were open but fortunately nothing was found.
At lunchtime Mr. Sweeney stopped me and said! “ Leger we know what you are up to and we’re going to get you in sooner or later” :)
I offer a free dinner if anyone can tell me who the volunteer student was that I gave my keys to ?
