Alumni's of Fenger Performing Arts Program "
The Alumni's of Fenger High School in Chicago is currently in the process of creating an after school performng arts program. The main focus of the program will consist of teaching students to play musical instruments as well as those who are interested in learning dance. The program will also offer tutoring for those students who perform less than a C in their high school classes. Tutoring wil be... offered in Reading, Writing, and Math. The program primary focus will be working with students performing less than a C in their core subjects. Our objective is to prepare high school students for the future by improving academic performance, indirectly help reduce the student violence, create strong caring relationships with students, engage parents to become strong advocates in after school programs, provide students a program to attend after school other than sports and to create a program where staff and youth develop close, trusting relationships. Therefore we are in the process of developing a database of all graduates from Fenger High School in Chicago, Illinois. Homer Thomas, Girls Track Coach
The Titan girls' track team had an outstanding season. Besides winning the conference meet ( for the 4th time in the past 5 years), the team qualified three relay teams and two individuals for the IHSA State Finals. This is the second year in a row that Fenger has qualified at least 5 athletes for the state finals. This comes after a 15 year (approx.) absence of state qualifiers from Fenger. This year's stars included the 4 X 200 relay team of Angela Taylor, Charlene Hogans, Tyisha Washington, and Jasmine Elias. The girls set a new school record of 1: 47.3. The also ran a 4:14.1 in the 4 X 400 relay and 51.2 in the 4 X 100 relay. Academically the girls did well also. Also, qualifying for the state finals was senior shot putter Lanita Callaway. This was her first year of comptition. All four seniors Charlene, Tyisha, Jasmine, and Lanita will be attending college on an athletic scholarship. Jasmine, Tyisha and Charlene in track and Lanita in basketball. All four girls were offered a minimum of 4 full rides to college (including St Francis of Joliet, Chicago State, St. Xavier, Iowa Western Communiyt College, and Illinois State. Congratulations girls. The girls are coached by head coach Homer Thomas, and assistants Sarah Clery and T'awanda Piper.
