Calvin A Schuler
Class of 1962
Air Force, 20+ Years
Enlisted in USAF in April 1966, Basic Training at Lackland, AFB, TX, Tech School at Sheppard AFB, TX. Trained as a Medical Technician, assigned to the 49th TFW, Spangdahlem AFB, Germany 2 yrs followed by 1 yr in the 12th TFW, Cam Ranh Bay AB, Vietnam. Transferred in 1969 to 55th Medical Service SQ, Offutt, AFB, NE while attending undergraduate school at UNL. Highest Enlisted Rank TSGT, E-6. In 1973, was accepted into the USAF Health Professions Scholarship Program, and Comissioned as a 2LT while in Medical School. In 1976, after graduation was assigned to USAF Medical Center Scott, Scott AFB, IL for my Family Medicine Residency. After completing Residency Program in 1979, was assigned to USAF Hospital Luke (now 58th Medical Group). While there I attended the Aerospace Medicine Primary Course at Brooks AFB, TX. I was assigned to the Family Medicine Clinic for 1.5 yrs and to Aerospace Medicine Service for 1.5 years. in 1982 I transferred from Active Duty to the Arizona Air National Guard, Phoenix, the 161st Air Refueling Wing. I remained there as Flight Surgeon, then Chief Aeromedical Services, and finally 161st Medical Squadron Commander the last 4 years of my career. I was able to attain the Rating of Chief Flight Surgeon during my time there and retired in November 1997 as a Col. (O-6). Notable in my career, is that I deployed with the 161st to numerous Countries including Spain, England, Italy, Australia
