Alumni Stories
Leon Stokes
Class of 1978
My father, John Stokes, was the best man I have ever known. Like many of his era, he was born into a segregated system in the south, however, he didn’t allow that to stop him from seeking a better life, or from living a life consistent with his belief in Christ. When I retired from a 41 year career at General Motors, my first project was to write a book paying homage to the man he was, for he helped me decide the kind of man I wanted to be. I also wanted to memorialize the life lessons he instilled in me, and share them in the hope that by doing so, his legacy will have a positive impact others. “Are The Kids Okay: Life Lessons From A Great Man” is that book; a inspirational memoir from an eternally grateful son.
