We lived at 4226 South Broadway. My father worked hard at Gates Rubber Company to support his family. He was exempt from the war because synthetic rubber was needed for WWII. I always admired him for that. My mother was a very troubled person. Like many of the women in the 50s, she had little opportunity to fulfill herself in any way. I feel that I had a lot to overcome because of a less than happy childhood. I managed to get a college degree in creative writing and later a paralegal degree. I have worked at every kind of job you can imagine. I married Wix Howard who was born in Guatemala, grew up in Haiti, has a masters from Colorado school of Mines and an MBA from Stanford University. By the time we got to Stanford, we had 4 children. I wish I had the time and energy to have many more. They are everything I always wanted to be. I think my best achievement was being ranked #1 in Colorado USTA Tennis Association in 1987 (4.5 sanctioned tournaments in women's doubles). Actually I think I was a better golfer than a tennis player--more fun and less stress. Women who play competitive tennis can be vicious! We started several companies. The last company (software for environmental use) was sold to IHS this year and we are retired. My life is more amazing than I ever imagined it to be. My three grandsons are in high school and college and have promised to give me a great grand daughter as soon as possible. I am in good health and wake up ev...(read more) |
