| About Me | I attended Fall quarter '68 at the University of Akron carrying a full load of 16 hrs. and wasn't ready for school, as I was working full time at Massey Ferguson. I enlisted in the U.S. Army that Dec., and went to basic at Fort Campbell, KY, home of the 101st Airborne Division, worked with U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey on the Transcontinental Traverse the balance of '69, and was made a Topographic Surveyor. I then shipped out to Vietnam, on the Cambodian border III Corps, in Jan. '70, and was assigned to the 79th Combat Eng. Group, and surveyed the construction of air strips, roads, and FS Bases, making all ready for the invasion of Cambodia on May 1, 1970. After a short time later, I met our classmate Sgt. John Biggs, who was back in VN at Bien Wha Air Base to get a new tank as his was blown up in combat in Cambodia. He was with the 11th Armered Cavalry Black Horse Div.. In Sept. '70, I received an early out to return to school at the University of Akron and I was truly ready then to complete my education. While at school in my junior year I met Sara, my future wife and mother of our three daughters. After completing my studies in the fall of '74. I finally was able to graduate with the next graduating class that spring. I began working for my Uncle James Cook, President of Cook Realty, Inc. In only three months, I made as much money as working a full year as a public accountant, for a CPA firm. During that same three month period, while feverously studying a cram course at the University, and while working hard on the Becker CPA review course prior to sitting for the four part CPA exam in Columbus. Everything was going well for my wife Sara; a special education teacher, and I until the summer of '79 when the bank interest rates grew to 21% on home loans, and business abruptly stopped. I left my family to get an accounting or auditors position in Atlanta, so we could both regroup and change our lives for the better. We sold our home on the West side of Akron and moved to Woodstock, GA, where we bought a new contemporary home large enough for our now growing family. The economy was much better, and Sara was able to get a teaching position on her second intervie, and I had been hired as an accounting consultant to the Atlanta Community Health Center. That engagement lasted for almost two years, while I was relicensed as a R.E. Broker under GA's laws. We have been here since 1980 and have enjoyed our 47 years togerher. Sara had a miscarriage and lost one of our children, but we ended up with three beautifull daughters, and eight grand children, four girls, and four boys. Sara retired from being an elementary school teacher for thirty seven years. I'm semi-retired now, but look forward to going back to work on a more active basis. Our oldest grand child Stephen, who lives with his family in Oahu, Hawaii, told us a few weeks ago that we would be great grand parents on or about October 6, and that our great grandchild would be a boy! I lost my 89 year old beloved mother on July 21st of this year. But God almighty has been very good to both of us. I couldn't stop typing this, but finally did! ...(read more) |
