Marcella Gladys “Marcy” Ness, born November 15, 1957, in Eureka County, Nevada, passed away on September 18, 2022, at her home in Sacramento’s Tahoe Park neighborhood. She was 64 years old.
Marcy was a talented athlete, dedicated professional, and accomplished businesswoman who built a life marked by hard work, perseverance, and a love of softball.
A gifted softball player, Marcy attended Sacramento City College, where her athletic achievements earned her a place in the college’s Softball Hall of Fame. She continued her education at California State University, Sacramento, where she studied business and played softball.
Marcy devoted 30 years of her career to Raley’s, beginning in the bakery and working her way up to the corporate office. Her experience and passion for baking eventually led her to open a bakery of her own, fulfilling an entrepreneurial ambition and sharing her love of the craft with others.
Marcy faced breast cancer and initially underwent successful treatment. Several years later, after experiencing a reaction to cholesterol medication, she learned that the cancer had metastasized. Despite her earlier victory over the disease, she ultimately succumbed to its effects.
Marcy was the daughter of David E. Ness and Vicki (Lockhart) Ness. She was preceded in death by her mother, Vicki, and her brother, Martin.
She is survived by her father, David E. Ness, and her brother, Mike Ness, who will cherish her memory and the life she lived.
Marcy will be remembered for her accomplishments on the softball field, her dedication throughout a long career, her entrepreneurial spirit, and the determination with which she pursued her goals. Her legacy lives on through her achievements and the family who loved her.
