Sammy Burns
Class of 1971
Sam Burns epitomized athletic excellence during his 3 years at EC. From the time his 6 foot 2 inch frame arrived at EC, he was already known nationwide as one of the swiftest young sprinters in the country.
Sammy also excelled as a running back for the Gauchos from the moment he became eligible to perform on the varsity level. As a 9.5 second 100 yard dash phenom he anchored the track team to countless victories along with too many victories to count in the 220 yard dash.
The thing I respect most about Sam was his consistent humility and genuine personalble attitude.
There is no question that each Gaucho alum who had the opportunity to witness Sam walked away with a filling of excitement and true allegiance to the tradition of El Cerrito High School.
I do not have any written proof of Sams accomplishments, but I am sure that no one in their right mind would deny my recap of Sammy Burns extraordinary career at EC.
I've submitted a newspaper article of me scoring a touchdown at EC as I don't have anything on Sammy. We were teamates, graduating together in 1971. This at least proves one thing, and that is I am who I say I am, therefore, I trust you will accept my nommination of Sam Burns for the EC Hall of Fame.
Sincerely,
Greg Williams
