Coast Guard, 20+ Years
Served as a Radioman, then a Telecommunications Specialist. Retired as a First Class Petty Officer (E-6). Was stationed in Seattle WA, Sitka AK, Juneau AK, Kodiak AK, Key West FL, and back to Seattle. Was trained in Voice, Radio Teletype, Morse Code, Landline and ship to shore communications. Only planned on serving one tour of four years......Well, twenty years later..... ;)

Served in Germany for 6 months before being sent to Vietnam 1968 to 1969 with the 1st Infantry Division. Sent to Walter Reed hospital in 1969 to straighten out my head and was stationed at Walter Reed for awhile. Was sent to Colorado Springs and Fort Carson with the 4th Infantry Division for the remainder of my time.

Served in the Army reserves and Active duty until 1997. Spent time in Germany, Korea and Panama, Plus many US bases. I was deployed to Haiti and Panama.

Retired from the WA Air National Guard as a SMSgt 242 Cmbt Comm Sq, located in Spokane, WA. I spend 18 of the 22 years as an Air Technician (Civilian Employee). I worked in communications operations for several years then cross trained into Navigational Aids maintenance. I retired as the unit QA Superintendent. I had the opportunity to travel worldwide in support of AF missions as well as state emergencies such as Mt St Helens and Firestorm. I also met my wife of 36 years in the Air Guard.

Peter died in Vietnam on July 1, 1970 as a corpsman. He married Wanda L. Marquardt Eisenhower class of 1968 in June of 1969.

Started out turbine aircraft mechanic on helicopters in Vietman from 1966-67. Then to Germany for 2 years back to Viet Nam 1969-70. May 70 helicopter accident left me the only one alive. Purple Heart recipient. Spent a total of 20 years 16 days. Now live in Tacoma, Washington.

With 37 days left in country I was flying when we crashed and I was the only one a lived out of the 4 of us. After recovery I continued both with the military but with my career progression for a total service of 20years 16 days before retirement

7 days after graduation I joined the Air Force. I spent 6 years in total at Nellis AFB in Las Vegas NV. 4 years on active duty and 2 years as a reservists with the 555th Red Horse Sq. After about a year back in Yakima I joined the Army. They sent me through the Warrior Transition Program in New Mexico and then onto Ft. Benning Ga. HOme of the Infantry! I have spent the last 3 years here at Fort Lewis as a Stryker operator with 2-3 Infantry. We just returned home from Iraq in June of 2010!
