About Me	Tom (Johnson class of 69) and I got married on the day I graduated from the University of Minnesota (crazy timing!) and moved into an apartment that bordered the A Field. When Tom graduated from the U of M, as a civil engineer he was offered a job with the Federal Highway Administration and we decided to go on an adventure. We lived in Indianapolis Indiana, Perry Oklahoma and Richmond Va during his training period with FHWA, our first permanent assignment was Providence Rhode Island where we bought a house and had our first son Adam. Two years later we moved to Topeka Kansas for our second permanent assignment. Two years later he was offered a position in St Paul, I immediately (not saying a word which is amazing considering I love to talk) went to a closet and started to pack! Once we were in Minnesota again neither of us wanted to leave. We lived in White Bear Lake for about six months until our house in Cottage Grove was built and stayed there for about seven years. Just after we moved to Cottage Grove we had our second son Ryan and bought our first home computer (1980). While Tom was at home helping me with the new baby and household duties I was unable to do he started writing computer programs for our new toy. This ended up with us starting a company called American Software and Distribution Company. Soooo any of you that had a TI home computer and bought Wizard's Dominion or Entrapment you bought one of Tom's creations! Thank you. So Tom quit FHWA to write software and manage our company just before the birth of our third son Glenn (1984). American Software was great fun. the boys (Adam and Ryan) helped package the software, I answered calls, handled a lot of the paperwork, Tom and I discussed ideas for new software, and Ryan tested the software he wrote for preschoolers. Then TI pulled out of the market, no income for six months, luckily Tom and I are savers so we had resources while we were deciding what to do next. American Software was great fun but we decided the market was changing too fast for us to keep up as our sons were always our top priority. Tom went to work for the Dakota County Public Works Department as a highway engineer and eventually went to work for Hennepin Couny so seven years after moving to Cottage Grove we moved to Eden Prairie. I am happy to say the boys are all doing well and we are the proud grandparents of Wyatt (Ryan's son) who is a Junior at Hastings High School in Hastings, NE. Than...(read more)
