About Me Born in Somerville, NJ, I grew up in Edison, NJ after my parents moved there shortly after my birth. I went through the Edison Township public school system, and was graduated from Edison High School. Following graduation, I went off to school at Madison College (now called James Madison University), in Harrisonburg, VA. It was a great place that was everything college was supposed to be! But, whereas we were trying to wind things down in Vietnam in 1974, my junior year in college, the communists weren't cooperating if you recall the nonsensical Paris peace talks of the time. It was said back then that we would soon have enough of their BS, and go back in a big way and finish the job right. I had been too young to go when things were hot over there, so, right before my senior year at Madison I enlisted in the Marine Corps to be able to get in on this. I hated to leave Madison, because I really loved it there, but joining the Marine Corps and going to Vietnam was something I just had to do. I figured that I'd return to school when we were done over there. Well, our so-called leaders decided to bow to the public opinion fueled by the Jane Fondas, Walter Cronkites, and others, and so Vietnam just faded away (although set the stage for the current and previous BS in the Middle East). Fact is, we didn't do any of these campaigns right, did we? So, I did my hitch, and returned to college, figuring that if they needed me, they knew where to find me. And, actually, I reenlisted a few years later, but this time in the Marine Corps Reserve, because I missed the Corps and there happened to be a combat engineer company nearby that I wanted to join. Although I had intended on returning to Madison, there was another school in Virginia, Radford College, that I knew of, that my buddies from Madison and I had talked about in the past. So I decided to check it out. If I didn't like it, I would return to Madison, I thought. Well, I went there and did my senior year, and then stayed and did my Master's by going 12 months straight. Radford turned out to be a great place as well, and I've been active over the years with both schools' alumni activities. After graduating with my Master's in Industrial/Organizational Psychology, with a minor in Business, I got into the industrial safety engineering trade, working for a commercial property and casualty insurance company, which I'm still doing today. I've worked for a couple of these companies over the past 30+ years, in Richmond and Roanoke, Virginia and Charlotte, North Carolina. I enjoy the travel, and the work itself, which is like a consulting function. My wife, Paula, is from NC, and our 3 children, ages 19, 15 and 13 were born here in VA after we moved back here with my job in 1988. I just recently signed on with Facebook because I had to be a member in order to post some photos on this “Charlotte Apartments Water Volleyball League Alumni” page. According to Facebook, I signed on in 2009. Actually, I was searching the whereabouts of a buddy of mine from the Marine Corps that year through Facebook, and had to give my email address to do that. Guess that constituted membership back then! I see that they want you to say what your favorite movies and TV shows are. I don’t really have any, but I do watch the news, the weather and the sports. I’m not much on broadcasting my daily thoughts and feelings on stuff, mostly because I’m too busy with work, but since they said, “tell us about yourself”, I figured I would. I’ve posted some photos for those who have known me over the years, in case they come across my page. And as soon as I figure out how to search for others on ...(read more)
