About	David J BREEN, 19, the son of David J. Breen and Theresa A. Breen of Easton PA. Born Jun. 10, 1949 in Philadelphia, he enlisted in the US Marine Corps on June 21 1968 in Philadelphia PA. He arrived in Vietnam on December 10, 1968 and was assigned for duty with Company H, 2d Battalion, 5th Marines, 1st MARDIV (Rein) FMF. Beginning in January the Battalion continued search and clear operations west of An Hoa in the Duc Duc District of Quang Nam Province during Operation TAYLOR COMMON under the OPCON (Operational Control) of the 3d Marines. On January 12, Company-H on a routine reconnaissance patrol on the western slope of Hai Qui (Hill 882) was hit by a volume of small arms fire from a fortified position. 81mm mortars were fired in the support with the Marines assaulting and taking the position. During the firefight, four men were wounded and PFC Breen was killed Jan. 12, 1969 in Quang Nam, Vietnam in the action as a result of hostile rifle fire. Burial: Gethsemane Cemetery A true Hero in a short lifetime.
