| About Me | Currently, my design work is what I call “organic industrial.” It is a unique integration of natural objects with hi-tech and industrial elements. My latest works are my lamps. I call them Treebone Lights. You can see some of them here and others appear on some of my connected sites. My artistic and design sensibilities are dynamic, growing and evolving since I was very young. I live in the home my parents built in 1972 which my mother designed, and drew the plans for. It is a great example of 70s modern: I loved it back then and I love it even more now, but for many years I, along with so many, shunned modern with the arrival of the 80’s. I thrived through its various contemporary, postmodernist - neoclassic-esque, and traditional gentrification/restoration boom. In 1987 I received a BA of Interior Design from Michigan State University. I worked in the retail design field. I worked as a visual merchandiser, a display coordinator, and as a store fixture designer and draftsman. I also had gigs designing health care and financial institution laminate case goods, such as nurse’s stations and teller counters. Later, due to economic conditions in the retail industry, and a good opportunity, I began designing residential interiors, specializing in cabinetry, furniture and kitchen design. Through the 90’s I enjoyed and excelled at creating design fitting the traditional design tastes of Detroit, its suburbs, and the Midwest in general. I rapidly rose to the high-end of the business where in 1998 I won the prestigious NKBA James Foster Award for the exceptional kitchen I designed for a historic Detroit mansion. I also paint, mostly postimpressionistic landscapes, and I produce greeting cards using a combination of images I’ve painted or computer generated. I am also an avid gardener completing several remarkable garden and landscape design projects over the years. I have a large knowledge of trees and plants and hope to complete the MSU extension services Master Gardeners program soon. I write palindromes, do word puzzles and read when I can. I love my home, my art, my flowers; my best friend, the wee lass Maggie McGee (le petit po...(read more) |
