John Barry Larson, born on July 22, 1948 in Hartford, Connecticut, is a well-known American politician and businessman. He is part of the Democratic Party and has been serving as the U.S. representative for Connecticut's 1st congressional district since 1999. This district is based in Hartford, the state capital.

Before Larson began his political journey in Hartford, he was an alumnus of East Hartford High School located in East Hartford, Connecticut. After high school, he pursued his higher education at Central Connecticut State University. Prior to his life in public service, Larson embarked on a career as a high school history teacher and an assistant athletics coach at George J. Penney High School, which later merged with East Hartford High School.

In addition to his efforts in education, Larson co-owned an insurance agency in East Hartford. His active involvement in public service began in 1971 when he was selected as a Senior Fellow to the Yale University Bush Center in Child Development.

Throughout his illustrious political career, Larson held various key political roles. He was the Chair of the House Democratic Caucus from January 3, 2009, to January 3, 2013. Before that, he was the Vice Chair of the same from January 17, 2006, to January 3, 2009. His leadership roles also extended to the House Administration Committee where he was the Ranking Member from January 3, 2003, to January 3, 2005.

Larson's political career also included his time in the Connecticut State Senate. He served as the President pro tempore of the Connecticut Senate from January 7, 1987, to January 4, 1995. He also represented the 3rd district in the Connecticut State Senate from January 5, 1983, to January 4, 1995.

Well into his 70s, Larson continues to make significant contributions to the political landscape of Connecticut and the United States.
