Lost my ring in the beach sand at our cottage on Little Traverse Bay in 1960 the year I graduated. Over 40 years later it was found by Gary White, husband of Susan Michael. He was walking on the beach with a metal detector and found it. It still looked as good as the day I received in 1960. It didn't even need any cleaning.
