Book on Vietnam

In 2019, I finally published the book I had planned to write before I went to Vietnam. I had an interesting and unique assignment as an Army Infantry First Lieutenant, commanding a 5-man Special Forces MAT Team in the Central Highlands of Pleiku Province, 1970-71. We lived and operated with the primitive Montagnard tribesmen, fascinating people and our best allies. We lived for a month in the small remote Montagnard village/compound where Barry Sadler wrote The Ballad of the Green Berets, a #1 hit in 1966. Also the same area where the battle of the movie We Were Soldiers (Mel Gibson) took place. The Montagnard tribesmen were depicted in the Marlon Brando-Charlie Sheen movie, Apocalypse Now, also a Pleiku Province setting. The book is PAWNS OF PLEIKU, on Amazon. 437 pages, 55 pictures, true and unembellished, though written in a novel form. This book led to be invited as the guest speaker in Los Angeles in April of 2025 for a large military group called 'Counterparts', made up of those who served in various wars from Vietnam to the present. All expenses paid for, four days and many events. And still have my dress blues uniform from 1969, worn only once for 2 hours back then. The group included generals, colonels, a command sergeant major, and several medal of honor recipients. A huge honor for me.

Fundraiser

"Cooking To Beat The Band" is the title of a cookbook printed by the parents of Deering High Band members about 1946.
The current band is in the process of reprinting this cookbook - with a few additions - as a fundraiser and as a senior project for
a current band member. We will be meeting on Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2014 at 6:30 in the band room - Rm. 224 - at Deering HS.

Comedy Night

A Friday night of comedy for Fun and a Good cause(proceeds will benefit the Deering girls Ice Hockey Team)
Friday Night October 19th 8:30 PM at The Goldroom, Portland Sports Complex, 512 Warren Avenue Featuring Comedian Bob Seibel along with Two opening acts. Tickets are 10.00 in advance, there will also be a 50/50 raffle and door prize. Have dinner before the show and the girls will get 10%. There will be a cash bar.
