Started with the 82nd Airborne Division following Radio Operator school and Basic Training. Then on to 10th Special Forces Group in southern Germany and the Special Forces Association as a General Member and Life Member. Was also their "Editor" of their quarterly magazine for over 13 years, ending in mid-2006.

Served with 3rd Marines, 3rd Marine Division. Member of regimental combat group stationed in Japan and Okinawa. Returned to US in and served in Camp Pendleton Military a Police.

Howard LaPointe
Class of 1961
Air Force, 22 Years
Joined in 1960, attended Air Traffic Control School and volunteering for Combat Controllers in 1961. Went to Vietnam for the first time in 1963 with MACV-SOG and again in 65 with the 1st Air Commando Group but assigned as a ground based Forward Air Controller with the 173rd Airborne Brigade, I came home in 1967, took a six month hiatus and returned to the Air Force in 68 but this time in telecommunications and computerized communications where I remained until I retired in 1982 as an E-7 staff NCO with AFCC's Continental Communications Division.

Basic: Ft. Jackson, SC; AIT: Ft. McLellan, AL (MP School). Sent to Fort Hood, Texas (That's How I Got Here), Where I Spent the Remainder of My Service, in the 410th & 256th Military Police Companies (720th MP BN, 89th MP Group, III Corps). Did Duty on Road Patrol and in the MP Station There. Also Served as a Reserve Police Officer During That Time in a Nearby Town, Which Led to Full-Time Police Work After I Left the Army. Was a Good Time to Join the Army, Right After Vietnam War, As I Was Never Sent Overseas or to a War Zone (Thank God!)... I Have Great Respect For Those Who Did Get Sent, Though, Before and After.

I was quartermaster 1st class I was Vietnam in the 70's. my job in the navy was a navigator which mean I help to get the ship form one place to other. I was also spent 76 days' in the indian ocean we the embassy in Iran was taken

Did my basic Training at Fort Polk La., my advanced infantry at Fort Jackson S.C., and medical training at Fort Sam Houston San Antonio Texas. I spent 9 mos on a nuclear strike base 80 kilometers N.E. of Frankfurt Germany, in the Fulda Valley with the 3rd Armor Div. I was later transferred to Vietnam, the 1st Div 2nd Bn Co. B 16th Rangers as their medic for 13 months. I was made a honorary life member.
