Mike Stuart, '65 will retire as a minister of word and sacrament of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) on September, 15 2011. He was ordained on July 29. 1986 after having served as a mission teacher in Malawi, Africa and mission interpreter from 1980-85. He graduated from Union Theological Seminary in New York City with an M.Div. degree. He also holds a B.A. and M.A. in History from the University of Oregon and a Certificat from the Universite d'Aix-Marseille, France. Mike directed two patterns of international mission service as part of the coporate leadership of the church in New York City and Louisville, Kentucky from 1985-1994. He also served as pastor to three congregations in New York, Kentucky, and Alaska. A board certified chaplain by the Association of Professional Chaplains, he served as staff chaplain at St. Charles Medical Center in Bend from 2000-7 and is currently serving as spiritual care manager for Home Care and Hospice of Western New York, Inc. since 2008. Prior to professional ministry, Mike was employed at Mt. Hood Community College from 1974-79 teaching history, academic advising, and placement services. He served in the US Marine Corps from 1967-69 and is a Vietnam combat veteran. He is married to the Rev. Roula Alkhouri and they have a daughter, Sophia, 11. Mike has two grown children from a previous marriage to Diana Hooff, '65, Tasha, 41, and Gui, 36. He has one grandchild, Martino, 6 months.
