Enlisted in Jan 1978 in the Missiles Systems career field. Separated in 1982 and re-enlisted in 1985 to receive college benefits and finish Bachelors degree. Retrained into Computer Operator careerfield in 1994 and retired in 2002. Deployed to Saudia Arabia, Eskan in Sept 1999-Jan 2000 with a 6 day notice as a single parent of 5. Duty called.

I have been in the Marine Corps for almost 18 years and I have loved most of it. I think it has made my life it is today. I am still married to Joy (Rounds) we are working on 17 years in March. I am doing three more years then I will retire from the Corps and start my next career in Home Land Security. I would have never thought I would have done 21 years in the Marine Corps once I am finished.

Served four year during Korean War as a medical assistant on the U.S.S. Logan Then he served five years in the submarine service on the U.S.S. Skipjack. He was buried at Arlington National Cemetary February 1, 2012, with full military honors.

Active duty July 27, 1950 to February 28, 1952. Departed on troopship USS Breckinridge January 1951, arrived in Pohang, South Korea, January 1951.
Served with Item Company, Third Battalion, First Marine Regiment, First Marine Division.
Awarded the Bronze Star. Citation reads as follows:
In the name of the President of the United States, the Commanding General, 1st Marine Division, takes pleasure in awarding the BRONZE STAR MEDAL to Private First Class Jerry C. Yeargain, United States Marine Corps-for service as set forth in the following citation:
"For heroic achievement in connection with operations against the enemy while serving with the Marine infantry battalion in Korea 25 June 1951, PFC. Yeargain, serving as a gunner in an automatic weapons section became engaged in a furious fire fight with well concealed enemy forces firing automatic weapons from bunkers. When the section leader became wounded during this action, he assumed command and by his initiative and inspiring leadership, succeeded in restoring order to the disorganized section. With complete disregard for his own personal safety, he then employed his section with such skill that the unit was able to aid the company immeasurably in the successful accomplishment of its mission. His courageous action served as an inspiration to those who were serving with him. PFC Yeargain's initiative and heroic leadership were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
PFC Yeargain is authorized to wear the Combat "v."

Served in the Strategic Air Command (SAC), first with a Minute Man nuclear missile wing in Montana, then moved to B-52's in Puerto Rico, Texas. Finally in 1972 shipped to Guam in direct support of B-52 operations in Southeast Aisa (Viet Nam) just before and during the North Viet Army's invasion of South Viet Nam in March of '72. Our 43rd Strategic Wing bombed the heck out of them from there.

I am GM3 Edelman, I was a gunner's mate, missile tech. I completed boot camp, went to gun school in Great Lakes, IL then went to MK 41 VLS school in SanDiego, CA and was stationed on the USS Decatur DDG 73. From there I was on shore duty at SWRMC, also in SanDiego, CA.

He was discharged with honor on April 24, 1946, as a Staff Sergeant. He was with the 30th Bombardment Squadron, 19th Bombardment Group.
He served for approximately 13 months with his unit on the Island of Guam in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater of Operations.
He served as a Remote Control Turret Mechanic, which meant he maintained and repaired turrets on B-29 bomber aircraft (superfortress). He rewired electrical systems, replaced condensors, generators, servos, electrical tubes, resistors, computors, condensors, flow lamps, switches and amplidynes. He also loaded bombs & ammnunition and repaired bomb racks and machine guns.
Awards received were the American Theater Service Ribbon, the European-African-Middle Eastern Theater Service Ribbon with 3 battle stars, the Good Conduct Medal, the Distinguished Unit Badge with 1 bronze star, and the World War II Victory Medal. Additionally, Lawrence received a letter from President Harry Truman, as likely did all soldiers, with a heartfelt thanks to him from a grateful nation.
