Edwin D. Fisher
Class of 1952
Dr. Edwin Dick Fisher was born August 31, 1934, in Cushing, Oklahoma, to Marie [Walter] and Dick H. Fisher. He graduated from Cushing High School in 1952. During high school, he was active in FFA, where he received the State and American Farmer Degrees, and was awarded the Governor's Award for his accomplishments in agriculture. He received his bachelor of science degree in animal science from Oklahoma A and M in 1956. He was a member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity and the Oklahoma A and M Livestock Judging Team. Eddie married Dorothy Ruppelius in 1959 and they lived in Stillwater, Oklahoma, while he attended school. He received his doctor of veterinary medicine degree in 1963 from Oklahoma State University. While in school, he served as president of the Junior American Veterinary Medical Association. He started his veterinary medicine career in Claremore and Tulsa, Oklahoma. In 1965, he came to Winfield where he spent 43 years practicing at the Winfield Veterinary Hospital. He loved treating animals and developing relationships with their owners. He served 20 years on the Winfield Area Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors, and served as their president in 1975. He was a member of Rotary Service Club and twice served as their president. He served on the Winfield City Commission and served as mayor of Winfield in 1979. He was a member of the board of directors for the H. L. Snyder Research Foundation and served as chairman of their research committee. Eddie was an active member of the First United Methodist Church, serving on numerous committees during his long membership. He received the Cowley County Friend of 4-H Award and helped organize the Cowley County Classic Steer/Heifer Show. He was a member of the OSU Veterinary Medicine Alumni Association and served as their first president. He was named the Oklahoma State University Veterinary Medical Distinguished Alumnus in 2006. Eddie died October 28, 2008, at the age of 74, succumbing to injuries suffered after being trampled by a bull he was treating at his clinic.
