Richard Collins
Class of 1968
Although Richard is a great guy, and has achieved some notoriety as a Consulting Engineer and worldwide expert in the emerging field of Induction Heat Treating .... this story is not about his current greatness, but is about his "Brush with Greatness."
Richard was lab partners with David Letterman in "Radio and TV 101" at Ball State. So in fact, he and Letterman started in Radio and TV at the same time and place.... but David got some good breaks and seems to have gone farther with his entertaimnment career.
I'm sure Richard could have gone as far, but instead answered that call to serve as a teacher, then later got into manufacturing and engineering.
By the way, Not sure who approves these things... but I think that this should become a wall of "Brush with Fame" stories.... far more entertaining, and otherwise the wall is likely to stay blank a looooong time.
