About | Jill Schauf February 4, 1947 - June 13, 2022 Resident of Aptos It is with great sadness we announce Jill surrendered June 13, 2022 to illness that began October 1, 2016, when she was diagnosed with a severe case of Guillain-Barre Syndrome. Her loving husband Tom was at her side as she made her final trip to the hospital, where family shared their last goodbyes. Tom was the love of her life from the day they met when she was just 16 years old, and he demonstrated his deep devotion through nearly 56 years of marriage – holding himself to a high standard as a compassionate caregiver during her health struggles. What an adventure Jill experienced over 75 years! She started in the small town of Concordia, Kansas, and ended up with a gorgeous view of Monterey Bay from her front deck in Aptos California. She adorned that home creatively and beautifully, using her incredible artistic skills. Tom and Jill sometimes joked that if he didn't move often enough, Jill would have painted him too! How fortunate she could follow her heart for her final working years, trading a Human Resources leadership role to launch a decorative painting business she adored. As a mom, Jill loved her two children Lesli and Curt. She was their fiercest advocate and loudest cheerleader. She raised them to consider others' needs and feelings, to set their own standards of perfection, to stand up for their beliefs, and to be self-sufficient and generous. She loved seeing her children happy and successful. For her sisters Ann, Debra, and Lisa, no one was more fun than Jill. A caring, vibrant and thoughtful soul, Jill loved her sisters deeply and they loved her right back. Jill was generous with her artistic skills – whether it was helping design a living space or serving as a shopping muse – and often triggered peals of shared laughter with her quick wit. She was one of a kind, always ready to comfort and encourage all family members and friends. Our heartfelt thank you goes to Jill's many caring supporters who have cheered her with comments, cards, visits, and surprises to bring a smile to her face. Your thoughtfulness has meant more than you know. Jill's suffering has ended, and now we're picturing her dancing, laughing, and singing, having a marvelous time in the great beyond. Jill is survived by her spouse Tom; her children Lesli Schauf and Curt Schauf & Curt's wife Janet Schauf; and by her sisters Ann Stevenson, Debra Nicosin, and Lisa Austin and their families. A memorial service will be held on Monday June 27 2022 at 11am, at the Pacific Gardens Chapel at 1050 Cayuga Street in Santa Cruz CA. In lieu of flowers please feel free to donate to GBS/CIDP Foundation. Friends can also memorialize Jill at her CaringBridge site, https://www.caringbridge.org/visit/mjsqueenofsheba/ |
