About Michael Henry Metro, 71, of Salina, passed away peacefully, July 9, 2019. He was born in Concordia, Aug. 9, 1947, to Alfred (Fritz) and Della Mae Metro.
Mike was in the first graduating class of the North Central Kansas Area Vocational Technical School, Beloit, School of Practical Nursing in 1969. He graduated from Stormont Vail School of Nursing in 1976. He graduated from Kansas Wesleyan University with a Bachelor of Science Business in 1989. He received American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) ertified Coding Specialist, in 2002. He was appointed to the Center for Medicaid and Medicare Services (CMS) 15 member, Ambulatory Payment Classification Advisory Panel 2001 thru 2005. He returned to Salina in 1977 to work at Asbury Hospital which eventually became SRHC, thru October 2010. He was offered and accepted a position with Via Christi Systems in 2011 till retirement in 2014.

He enjoyed bus tours with his wife, to Yellowstone National Park, Feb. of 2014, and Pacific Northwest Spring of 2015.

Survivors: his wife of 43 years, Carol; sons, Curtis and Nick; son-in-law, Rob Kinnick; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Sandra Hittle, Jolene Clark (Dave), Larry Metro (Deanna), Joyce Dutton, Jim Metro (Michelle) of Concordia, Steve Metro (Deb) of Albuquerque, N.M., Geralyn Strait (Bob) of Emporia, and Julie O’Donnell (Kenny) of Salina; and numerous nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by: his parents; brother, Ric; and daughter, Michelle Kinnick.

Visitation: 4-8 p.m. Sunday, July 14, at Ryan Mortuary, Salina, with Rosary at 6 p.m.

Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Monday, July 15, at St. Mary’s Queen of The Universe Catholic Church, Salina, with burial in All Saints Catholic Cemetery.
