Kathleen (McCarthy) Hodge
Class of 1973
Air Force, 20 Years
I joined the Air Force in 1976 to get the GI college benefits as much as to travel the world. My job in the military was to build/maintain/repair air-to-air and air-to-ground tactical missiles, bombs, guided bombs, bunker-busters, rockets, and a variety of other types of ammunition and weapons.
My assignments included; Moody AFB, GA (1977-1978), Torrejon AB, Spain (1978-1980), Lowry AFB, CO (1980-1983), Mountain Home AFB, ID (1983-1985), Incirlik AB, Turkey (1985-1987) and Shaw AFB, SC (1987-1996).
During my time at Shaw, my husband and I took turns deploying to the Middle East in support of the Gulf War and Operation Southern Watch. That way one of us was at home to take care of our children. We eventually retired from military service while at Shaw.
