Class of 1964
Navy, 3 Years
Jan 1965 entered Navy and was assigned to a fleet oiler, USS Kennebec (AO-36). Started in deck force then sent to Postal Clerk school in San Diego then back to Kennebec until Aug 1968 when I was flown back to US during 4th WesPac for discharge at Treasure Island.

Navy, 28 Years
Enlisted in the Navy Reserve in 1961 along with classmates, Loren Storni, James Glaze and Geary Whiting. Graduated from Radioman A and B school. survived three tours in Vietnam, two aboard the USS Yorktown, CVS 10 and 1 year in country aboard the USS Hickman County, LST 825. Retired as a Radioman Senior Chief (E8) in the Navy Reserve.

after boot camp as brigade commander of the color guard I went to radio "A" school but could not master morse code at 50 wpm. I was assigned to the USS ticondaroga cva-14 as a quartermaster and promoted thru the ranks to petty officer 3rd class and transferred to new london, conn. for submarine school and syns navigation. after grad I went to a west coast sub - the uss razerback - after a west pac tour and many hair raising adventures during viet nam, I was allowed to go to 2nd class diver school in san diego,ca. succesfully completeing many stressfull challenges returned to subs and xfered to the uss caiman. another tour of west pac and even more challenges along w/ promotions to 2nd class petty officer. I took and passed the 1st class p.o. exam and could have been advanced but chose to leave active duty for a college education offerred by the benefits of the g.I. bill. Later I re-activated my military service as a reserve w/ a harbor clearance unit while continuing as a state traffic officer w/ th calif hwy patrol. but, after seversl years w/ th e chp I decided to leave the chp and work in the private sector.
