About Jeffrey Delond Conner, 57, of Devonshire Drive, Candler, died on Monday, April 5, 2010, at Memorial Campus, Mission Hospitals.

A native of Buncombe Co., he was the son of Joe and Marianna Young Conner. He was preceded in death by his sister, Joleen Miller, who died in 2008.

Mr. Conner was a teacher and coach in Buncombe Co. for 30 years. He was a beloved father and friend, and will be remembered as a great dad who loved God and treasured spending time with his family and friends and enjoying life.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Conner, is survived by sons, Wes, Clint, Russ, and Rafe Conner; and grandchildren, Madison, Tyson, and Katy Conner.

A memorial service for Mr. Conner will be at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Enka High School Gymnasium with the Rev. Joe Yelton officiating. A graveside service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday at Oak Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Wes Austin officiating. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Mitch Miller, David Hunter, Ronnie Capps, Mike Moore, Jeff Burleson, Bucky Tarr, and Ben Miller.

His family will receive friends following the service on Wednesday evening.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Oak Hill United Methodist Church, 227 Oak Hill Rd., Candler, NC 28715, where Mr. Conner was a long time member.

Coach Conner was a football coach at Erwin High School and led the 1981 Season (Class of '82) to the State Championship. Conner also coached the Girls Basketball team. At the time of his death, Conner was the Football Coach at Enka High School, where he formerly played. His smile was infectious and his leadership and mentoring skills left life-long impressions with those that knew him. His sudden death shocked the community. He will be greatly missed.
