Mrs. Brown taught in the Buncombe County school system for 45 years. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church. Mrs. Brown enjoyed cooking, doing crossword puzzles, needlepoint, and making Christmas ornaments. She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Wayne Brown. She is survived by one nephew and his wife, Hoyt and Kathy Roberson, Jr., of Sylva and one niece and her husband, Anita Inez and Mike Roberson of Fredricksburg, VA: two great-nephews and one great-niece; a sister-in-law, Lucille M. Roberson, of Sylva; a cousin, Mabel Lusk of Asheville and four very special friends, Tony and Penny Lewis and Larry and Evelyn Cordell. Visitation will be from 9:30-11 a.m. on Tuesday at Morris Funeral Home, with the funeral service at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Morris Funeral Home, 304 Merimon Ave., with the Rev. Christen Matlick officiating. Burial will follow at Ashelawn Garden of Memory, 901 Aiken Rd. Pallbearers will be Tony Lewis, Willie Lewis, Grover Brown, Harold Rogers, Hoyt Roberson, Jr. and Larry Cordell. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be sent to John F. Keever Solace Center.
Events Mrs. Brown was a legendary Math teacher at Erwin. She taught there for at least 30 years. She would raise her hand in the air and the class would immediately turn silent. She didn't put up with nonsense and she was old-fashioned. We need more teachers like her nowadays. Everyone should be taught Geometry by Inez. She and Burnette Brown were sister-in-laws. Inez lived on a beautiful farm into her '90's and passed away never having children of her own, but touching so many children's lives. Posted in 2012.
