About Shirley Sue Hawkins Taylor, 84, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at the CarePartners Hospice Solace Center while surrounded by her family.

A native and lifelong resident of Buncombe County, she was a daughter of the late James Russell Hawkins and Annie Mae Moore Hawkins. She was also preceded in death by her sister, Nancy Bradley and husband Don; brother, Thomas Russell Hawkins, Sr.; sister-in-law, Joan Hawkins; and brother-in-law, Raymond Freeman.

Shirley was a 1958 graduate of Clyde A. Erwin High School and a longtime member of Macedonia Baptist Church. She was a devoted mother and will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

Surviving are her children: Mike Taylor and wife Lisa, Eddy Taylor and wife Revonda, Melody Eppler and husband Dwayne, and Michelle Berry and husband Sonny; grandchildren: David, Kim, Seth, Jessica, Brett, Shelby, Drake, Mason, Christopher, Taylor and Katelyn and 16 great-grandchildren; sisters: Annette Buckner and husband Bruce, Loretta Freeman, Judy Owenby and husband Clarence, and Kathy Lovelace and husband Bruce; sister-in-law, Nancy Hawkins; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Tuesday, January 21, 2025 at Newfound Baptist Church, 2605 New Leicester Hwy. Leicester, NC 28748, with Pastor Bradley Johnson and Rev. Dr. Ronnie Owen officiating. A private burial will follow at Mountain View Baptist Church Cemetery in Alexander.

The family will receive friends from 12:00pm till 1:45pm on Tuesday at the church.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the staff of Aston Park Healthcare Center and CarePartners Solace Center for their exceptional care of Ms. Taylor and her family.
